Creative developer and a professional amateur in the world of endurance sport
Software engineer · Amateur hybrid athlete
Hi, my name is Steve and I'm a software engineer by trade. I didn't grow up around computers. In fact, I built my first website a few years ago—a site for a local cafe that took me three days locked in my room following an HTML & CSS tutorial. I remember its centerpiece was a massive"Let's meat" headline that I thought was genius at the time. I haven't touched that site since but I have created better and fun websites (like this one) ever since.
I used to run a lot. If it involves a start, an end and a humbling journey to get from one to the other then I’m probably passionate about it; I cycle relatively long distances. I can squat twice your weight. I love solo hikes. All this goes to say that I have a questionable relationship with discomfort, which I've come to terms with. Invite me for a session!
I'm a Christian. My faith shapes how I think about time, work, people, and what it means to do anything well.
I have a playlist called Mimi ni Mhindie because I listen to Indie. I enjoy playing Kenya @50, cracks me up to see the different perceptions people have of the items they're describing.
Simply put: I am a guy in Kenya interested in creative stuff. In late 2025, we tossed around the idea of starting a software company. Fast-forward and we are building products at Origin HQ and learning a ton.
One of my goals in 2026 is to simplify my defaults and build from first principles as I broaden my skillset.

So apparently the life expectancy of a Kenyan is 67.7 years.
The original life-in-weeks idea belongs to Tim Urban. He drew it for himself and then made everyone else feel this existential dread.
Have fun with it, see your life in Mondays.
Thanks for stopping by!
